Windows Phone 7 Technical Preview

Yep. It’s out there in the hands of main stream media now. No, still not in the hands of Microsoft MVPs or even Mobius members. Well, some Mobius members or MVPs might have access to this technical preview, but not on the basis of being an MVP or Mobius member. Lucky for me, one of my good friends got his hands on one. Matt Miller aka Palmsolo not only has the mystery Samsung device with Windows Phone 7, he’s got the most in depth coverage of the device online already. His article runs circles around any other investment Microsoft seems to have made here.

Microsoft has taken plenty of abuse over the last couple years. Most of the problem is that Microsoft and Windows Mobile had not evolved while new Mobile Operating Systems like Android and the iPhone OS have come to the ballpark and hit home runs and continue to bat well. Microsoft hit home runs early in the decade, but rode the same horse, almost to death. Windows Phone 7 is supposed to be completely new and innovative, but they are already getting hammered before the game starts. Normally, after reading an article like the one I linked, I would go to bat and explain to my readers where the half cocked rants went wrong, but I have nothing to go on here. Even though I have seen some demos, I have zero hands on time with Windows Phone 7 at this point.

From reading around the web today, I am getting a tad bit concerned about Windows Phone 7. It’s already running later than Microsoft should have launched, but from what I am reading, it should be delayed even more.

You can fill your morning learning what a couple sites have to say about this Windows Phone 7 Tech Preview:

I read Matt’s article last night before I went to bed and Engadget’s this morning, but I haven’t read the BGR article. I will admit, I am putting it off until after plenty of caffeine. I expect it will be full “iPhone this and iPhone thats”. Not that the iPhone is bad, I am just saying.

I will have to take all this in and see some more before I get overly concerned. Right now, I am a wee bit concerned that it’s not going to be enough to wow consumers. Another huge issue I have is applications. Microsoft BETTER have an impressive database of apps at user’s disposal at launch time or it’s game over before it starts. Apps are a huge part of my lure to my iPhone. (Yes, I am using an iPhone currently)
