Brett Leckness = Ted Williams!

Haha… not really, but I am really proud of him. He has quit karate now (right before Black Belt too) and taken up Baseball. He is in his 1st real season now. When I say real, he has played a “mini” fall season, but there is really no time for practice and skill development in that short season. So anyhow, he’s picked up this game fast and last night was the best night of his short career.

I have been working with him at the batting cage a lot lately and we’ve taken his lefty swing from being a stand still, poke at the ball swing into an almost real swing. He still has to work on his pivot foot and shifting his weight better though. He’s seeing the ball good and when he gets a hold of one, he’s hammering it. The coaches have noticed his improvement too and moved him up to hitting #5 last night. Brett is 7 and the league is for 7/8 year olds. Batters 1-4 are all 8 year olds and they normally generate the majority of the teams runs.

Why so proud last night? Well the 1-4 hitters got on base everytime and Brett got to clear them off a few times. Brett went 2-3 with 6 RBIs and 1 run score last night. The 1st at bat, runners were on 2nd and 3rd and he nailed one right between 1st and 2nd. The right fielder got it in fast, but 2 runs scored and Brett had to stay on 1st. He eventually scored though. Next at bat, same thing… runners on 2nd and 3rd. He hit a line drive just over the 1st basemen’s head. 2 runs score, Brett gets to 2nd. 1st double of the year too. Next batter gets a single and Brett holds at 2nd. Next batter hit a grounder to 3rd and steps on the bag, Brett’s out and really pissed off that they didn’t tag him. He thought he was safe. I had to explain the force out thing to him. He was so upset. His last at bat, runners on 2nd and 3rd AGAIN. Brett hit a routine grounder to 1st. Runner from 3rd scores, 1st basemen throws to 3rd, but the 3rd basemen misses and the other runner scores. I call that 2 more RBI, but technically it’s only 1.

Congrats Brett! What a game!

PS. They lost 12-13.
