UPDATE: Still sucks badly. The game (the physical game) makes it worth the $29.99 but the video quality is seriously lacking. Please, please… Take some of the profits and buy some cameras.
Step up your Pay Per View Production. I realize that the actual University does not run this production, but you are responsible for contracting out the Alabama Sports Network, right? They need to improve the quality, seriously.
Since the season has yet to begin, I have not ordered a pay per view game yet this year, but I am reluctant to order this year. The 1st game is in 3 days and I am debating in my mind if I want to drop $35 a game again this year for the poor quality of the games. Last year, I had a standard 40″ Picture tube TV, but now that I have an HD LCD, I am concerned that the lack of quality of the pay per view games will be amplified on this new TV.
I live in Tuscaloosa and have already made a choice to no longer attend games at Bryant Denny based on my feeling and the snubs that occured with the continued push of Tide Pride, so in order for me to pull for the team I grew up loving, I have to rely on TV.
I am very disappointed with the production the pay per view. I am sure that equipment is expensive, but I think that the Alabama Sports Network can afford an upgrade. Let’s look at some numbers. My numbers are not verified, but I read somewhere that these broadcasts are purchased by 800,000 suckers like me. Let’s knock that number down to 500,000 for simplicity.
500,000 x $30 = $15,000,000.00
15 Million Dollars a game… That is a lot of money. I have no clue what costs are involved in all this, but I am sure a nice chunk has to be paid to the University of Alabama. Still, I can see a ton of money left over after the year of pay per view. How about buying some “good” cameras? Watching last years pay per view everytime, It was apparent to me that either these guys are working with less than stellar equipment or the cameramen do not know how to set up these cameras properly. I can’t offer any suggestions as I don’t know how to set them up myself, but I am frustrated.
If measures have been taken to improve the pay per view in the offseason, thanks. If not, PLEASE FIX IT.
