Yup, I am talking about remotes and I am guilty too. This story isn’t bashing our era for being too lazy to get up to switch the channels… no, why would anyone want to. Seriously. This story is a funny, but true story that happened last night and finished up this morning.
My daughter and son were watching TV around 7PM in the living room. The were picking at each other and one of them hit a button on the remote that ended up turning everything off. I was dozing off and was in and out of consciousness, but I saw my daughter attempt to turn it back on. I have one of those fancy remotes, the Logitech 880 or something like that. This remote controls several devices in one click. For instance, you want to watch a DVD, click “Watch DVD” and the remote goes to work. It turns off the satellite receiver, changes the amplifier input channel, and turns on the DVD player. Well, she hit “Watch TV” and everything but the picture came up. She fiddled for 3-4 minutes with the remote before giving up and just leaving the room, never to return. End of that episode. When I got up from a short nap, I went to work in my office and never turned the TV on. I work and play until bedtime and retire…
About 9am this morning, I got a call from my wife. “I can’t get the TV to work.” I asked here if the TV was actually on. She didn’t know. It was possible that the HDMI switcher in my Yamaha amplifier was set to the wrong output, but I had a feeling the TV wasn’t on, so I asked her to press the power button. “I don’t see any buttons”. I told her that they were on top of the TV. She said she didn’t even know the TV had buttons. We have only had this Sony Bravadia for 6 months or so, but damn… You didn’t see buttons last time you dusted? Anyhow, she found the power button and it fixed the problem.
