I have been an Alabama Football fan since I was a boy. It’s hard not to be growing up in a town with such rich tradition. Tuscaloosa Alabama is a place where Alabama Football is like Hockey is to those folks up in Canada. It’s almost a religion.
The University of Alabama is rich in winning tradition and has 12 National Championships. Ever since Bear Bryant left us, things have never been quite right in TTown though. Other than Gene Stalling’s 1992 National Championship, Alabama has been an average program. In the late 80′s and most of the 90′s we’ve been a top 20 caliber team most of the time, but things started getting real bad in the last 5-6 years. 4 Coaches, mediocre teams, NCAA Sanctions, etc….
Ever since Bear Bryant, it seems that Alabama is looking for the next Bear. Face it, that will never happen. Let’s look for the next winner and stop comparing them all to Bear.
Mike Shula, son of Don Shula, took over the Alabama coaching parade 4 years ago and has just been fired. He will leave with a 26-23 record, including a 10-2 season last year. No, that is not good, in fact its less than not good. It’s unacceptable, but we are coming off a bunch of problems and I think Mike needed a little more time. Nope, not Alabama fans. We collectively call for his head and the “Program” responds and fire him.
This is Alabama Football. I love Alabama, but sometimes the fans here just … well, you know.
